Q: Tell us about yourself! When did you come to the States, what did you study, and what is your full-time job?

A: My name is Yeeying. I am a travel and fashion blogger. I came to the States 9 years ago to pursue a degree in Architecture. After graduation, I moved to DC (from Ohio) last year for a full-time job as an architectural designer.

Q: What it takes to become an architectural designer? Any interesting/exciting projects that you'd like to share?

A: It's pretty easy to become an architectural designer with the proper education. The most challenging part for most architectural designers is to obtain the license and become registered architects. The path to Architectural Licensure requires more than a creative mindset. It's more about management, construction, and all that not fun stuff. In a word, architectural design is a multitasking job. We can be salesmen, real estate agents, interior designers, structural engineers, and the list goes on.

One of the interesting projects I've worked on recently is a VR game my team and I designed and built during the pandemic. The game is intended to train family members to properly take care of the elderly at home during quarantine. As an architectural designer, I designed the floor plan and built all the 3D models to allow people freely walk around in the VR world I created using a VR headset. Now the Metaverse is coming, I'm seeing more and more architecture firms doing virtual projects. That could be the future of architecture.requires more than a creative mindset. It's more about management, construction, and all that not fun stuff. In a word, architectural design is a multitasking job. We can be salesmen, real estate agents, interior designers, structural engineers, and the list goes on.

Q: What social media platforms are you currently active on?
Q: What do you think are the differences between Chinese platforms and US platforms (eg. RED vs. IG) ?

A: I'm most active on IG (@choo_yy). I think the biggest difference between RED and IG is that RED is more about the captions and information sharing over texts, while IG is more about photos and videos. The logo says it all. The old Instagram logo is an iconic camera lens while the RED logo is a red cover book. You can have super short captions on IG. But on RED, people spent more time reading the information you are sharing, rather than the photos you posted.

Q: What outfits do you wear to work?

A: I’m probably one of the few people working in the architectural industry wearing pink and other colorful outfits. I barely have any black items when most of the people in my field are wearing black and white outfits. I like my work outfits reflecting the mood or the season I’m in but keep it business casual. For example, now that spring is finally here, I like to wear pink dresses or any other pastel clothes.

Q: How do you get yourself out of a funk?

A: As a travel and fashion blogger, I like planning trips or small weekend getaways. Whenever I feel a little down, I like to explore on Google Maps and try to find unique or beautiful places for my next trip. It may sound weird, but it does help boost my mood. I get super excited about planning new trips and coordinating my outfits for each photo spot.

Q: Finally, tell us what's on your shopping list now!

A: I’m so excited for the cherry blossom that’s happening right now. I’m looking for all things pink outfits or any other light/pastel colors. It’s the season for flowy dresses and floral print clothing! I love the Ballet dress by Molifusu in FANGYÁN Stores. This dress has layers of tulles and it’s perfect for spring!
